IT executives and managers are in need of a blueprint to understand the services available to them– – one that will help them determine what they need, where to find it, and how to manage it. This book is the only one of its kind to provide professionals with a road map explaining the necessary technologies and criteria that are key to building a successful web-hosting strategy. Expert Doug Kaye offers you a comprehensive resource of information and provides you with a perfect balance of executive summaries of technologies and strategies for selecting and monitoring vendors. Written for a technically savvy and experienced audience, this book examines such topics as: The pros and cons of outsourcing web hostingShared and dedicated servers, colocation, and managed service providers (MSPs) Risk management and service level agreements (SLAs) Modeling web site traffic and capacity planningHow to evaluate connectivity quality and performanceArchitecture, security, backup and recovery, and monitoringCaching and content delivery networks (CDNs)Negotiating with vendors The companion web site includes more than 200 tips for web site owners and an updated list of resources with links to books, tools, online articles, and white papers. Communities and Ecosystems: Linking the Aboveground and Belowground Components by David A. Wardle, Most of the earth's terrestrial species live in the soil. These organisms, which include many thousands of species of fungi and nematodes, shape aboveground plant and animal life as well as our climate and atmosphere. Indeed, all terrestrial ecosystems consist of interdependent aboveground and belowground compartments. Despite this, aboveground and belowground ecology have been conducted largely in isolation. This book represents the first major synthesis to focus explicitly on the connections between aboveground and belowground subsystems--and their importance for community structure and ecosystem functioning. David Wardle integrates a vast body of literature from numerous fields--including population ecology, ecosystem ecology, ecophysiology, ecological theory, soil science, and global-change biology--to explain the key conceptual issues relating to how aboveground and belowground communities affect one another and the processes that each component carries out. He then applies these concepts to a host of critical questions, including the regulation and function of biodiversity as well as the consequences of human-induced global change in the form of biological invasions, extinctions, atmospheric carbon-dioxide enrichment, nitrogen deposition, land-use change, and global warming. Through ambitious theoretical synthesis and a tremendous range of examples, Wardle shows that the key biotic drivers of community and ecosystem properties involve linkages between aboveground and belowground food webs, biotic interaction, the spatial and temporal dynamics of component organisms, and, ultimately, the ecophysiological traits of those organisms that emerge as ecological drivers. Hisconclusions will propel theoretical and empirical work throughout ecology.
Shared web hosting service - A shared web hosting service or virtual hosting service is a form of web hosting service where more than one web site is hosted on the same server. It is generally the most economical option for hosting as many people share the overall cost of server maintenance. Driver's Ed - Driver's Ed (short for Driver's Education) is a class that is offered in high schools and some independant agencies that teaches students how to drive and practice road safety. Students take Driver's Ed to supplement the knowledge from government-printed driving handbooks so that they will be prepared for the test to get their learner's permit or driver's license. Web hosting service - A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that provides individuals, organizations and users with online systems for storing information, images, video, or any content accessible via the Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Reseller web hosting - Reseller hosting is a form of web hosting wherein the account owner may split up their alloted hard drive space and bandwidth and resell web hosting.
